Challenge 15: Make-up (Challenge 3) Honey!

Hi all :)

A while back I was on a cross country road trip and missed couple of the challenges in the beginning. I have always wanted to do another product design, and I thought how perfect would it be to design honey jars?

I hope everyone enjoys my design! Happy Spring!

Challenge 3: Honey

Originally I wanted to do something with honey milk tea (Lolicup brand ftw) but I wasn’t sure how it would work. So I tried to jazz it up and have her drink outta a flower and then it just turned into this XD I guess picking such a broad topic really bit me in the butt this time around!

Challenge 3: Honey

Honey. This was yet another challenge for me; being so broad a concept, I was overwhelmed with different ways I could interpret it! For my concept (after lots of doodles, sketches, and word lists), I chose to design a pretend label for honey and beauty products. I’ve come across a lot of beauty and soap products that incorporate honey, and I love designing labels and packages. I chose the name Hive Honey after the beehive hair-do. This was a really fun challenge to me, and working traditionally has been so refreshing.

Challenge 3: Honey Bee

Hi all!

Well, my new apartment’s cable and internet package won’t be installed until the 23rd of this month, so I drove about an hour back to my parents’ house to bum some web (and see my cat) because I didn’t have my on-call shift today at work!  For this challenge, I knew I wanted to do some hand-lettering, since I hadn’t used it in a while.  With the topic, it was hard to avoid the obvious, and while thinking about combs, honey, and bugs, I remembered one of my favourite books, “The Secret Life of Bees.”  In the beginning of every chapter is an informative quote from a book about the insect.  This quote I found very fitting to my personal life, as well as an interesting fact.  It seemed very appropriate for the challenge!

The Square Carousel Collective was founded in 2011 by 10 talented, up and coming illustrators. After meeting at school, the group was initially formed around shared aesthetics, and now encompasses a eclectic range of styles. Although we all work in different mediums and styles, we share a common drive for professionalism and dedication to the field of illustration. We post tri-weekly challenges, with each artist taking a turn selecting a theme. We also discuss our illustrator lives of traveling to various conventions, shows, and living off ramen.
