Q:Does Square Carousel have room for another SCAD illustrator? I would love to be a part of the collective. :)
Hi! We aren’t currently looking to fill any spots, but we often use substitute artists if one of our members is unable to participate on a challenge. If you’re interested in joining our list of subs, send a link to your stuff our way! Thanks!
Challenge 43: Re-Do
For this Challenge we’re gunna be doing a Re-Do! SC members will select an illustration of theirs’ that’s at least 5 years old ( the older the better though ) and re-do it, simple as that! And when completed we’ll be posting the original with our new pieces so we can see the awesome transformation <3
Challenge 42: Complete Partnership- Charlotte and Elizabeth’s Assastronauts
I had the absolute pleasure of working with the lovely Charlotte on this challenge, and I hope you enjoy the piece we created together (She came up with the awesome theme and composition, she’s a champ) <3
Challenge 42: Complete Partnership- Chris and Sarah’s House Hunting
Due to some poor circumstances Sarah and I were not able to finish our collaboration in time for the post. But here is our progress! Because both of us just finished up with a move, we wanted to do something about how you choose a place to live and the effects that moving might have.
The figure in the sketch kind of looks like Robert Plant… weird
Challenge 42: Complete Partnership - Molly and Julia’s Geisha Cat
Julia and I decided to go with a simpler image in the end so our styles would meld together! This was fun and challenging to work a bit closer and more frequent while collaborating. Molly.
Challenge 42: Complete Partnership: Caitlin and Casey’s Children’s Book Spread
I think it would be safe to say that Casey and I thought this would be a lot easier than it actually was! Working together consistently required a lot more communication, patience, and compromise than just pasting together two different sections that we worked on separately.
We would each work on the piece for 30 minutes, which was a perfect limit so neither of us could “take over” stylistically, but also made compromising a lot more complicated! It was actually quite funny, because in our last bit of work during Skype, we revealed that we’d both been insecure about our aesthetic coming through. I suppose that means we had actually done a good job with our collaboration!
In the end, I truly believe we brought out the best in each other, because this piece is really exciting! Casey pushed me in ways I hadn’t been pushed in a long time, and this art is a true union of our two illustration voices. Thanks for willing to be pushed, and pushing me back, Casey. This was a great experiment!
Also- just a side note- this process GIF is super cool!
Challenge 42: Complete Partnership
For this challenge, we will be pairing off for another collaboration project! The theme is up to each duo, as focusing solely on partnership is the purpose of this challenge. Groups will have consistent working communication with their partner, so that every stage of the process has been thought out thoroughly. The art should be passed back and forth quite a few times! At then end, we should all have some nice progress images to make gifs from. Yay!
Here are the pairs:
James and Ashley (sub for Courtney)
Elizabeth and Charlotte
Sarah and Chris
Caitlin and Casey

challenge 41: freebie: a glorious dawn awaits
besides art, one of my favorite things has always been the cosmos. the universe is an amazing place. i’m a huge fan of carl sagan and discovered something called “the symphony of science” which uses autotune to combine different segments from his series “cosmos” and various other science programs to create some pretty interesting songs. this particular piece was inspired by “a glorious dawn.”
